For Tarra and her Bella

Tarra

Every tree that you pass,

In the next several days,

Will remind you of Bella,

In so many ways.

But she is still with you,

Each step of the way,

And nothing can sever,

The bond that you made.

Think of her sweet smell,

And see her out there,

Remember her playing,

Throwing sticks in the air.

Her essence is with you,

Her spirit is strong,

You are one with each other,

She will never be gone.

She brought you the sunshine,

On those cold winter days,

Then cuddled beneath you,

On a warm pile of hay.

When times get the hardest,

With no will to go on,

Remember your Bella,

And the pain will be gone.

I wish I could be there,

To hold you and say,

I’ll love you forever,

Forever and a day.

Dear Carol, I was thinking of you this morning when the news came through. I was thinking, what single person in the world should be with Tarra right now and that person is you. The Sanctuary acknowledges the “strong bond” between Tarra and Bella and Tarra’s grieving. That bond lasted several years compared to the more than 30 you and Tarra shared. Indeed, from Tarra’s infancy. It’s unthinkable and you know, I love the elephants at the Sanctuary but my heart has grown cold for that place. I’m trying hard to keep an open mind but too many things don’t add up and these people (the Board) don’t strike me as “enlightened” at all. I still believe in the Sanctuary, but here’s my problem. I want its founders back in it. It would not exist without you and without Scott and now you’re both gone. Anyway, my heart goes out to you and Tarra today. I know Tarra will receive comfort from her elephant companions and you from the people who have followed the Sanctuary since it began.

I am beside myself with grief for Tarra and her sweet companion, Bella, as I am sure you are also. I wish more, today, than any day so far, that you could be there for Tarra as she copes with the loss of her other closest family member. My belief is that it was Bella who has made it bearable for Terra to be separated from you. The absolutely heartless actions of TES sicken me and make me feel so helpless to do anything to assure myself that The Girls are being properly taken care of. I know that we were no longer going to go down this road, since our real focus needs to be on all elephants and not on the injustices of TES, but their allowing this instability in Tarra’s life only confirms the thoughts of my suspicious mind. Blessings on you and on our sweet Tarra as you both deal with your grief in your own ways.

Carol, What a lovely poem! The news about Bella is heartbreaking. She was such a sweet and loyal friend to Tarra. I sincerely hope that you are granted access to visit Tarra. She would love to see you, especially at this time. Barbara

Poor, sweet soul Bella. That she should have to go on to the next life in such a painful way adds so much more sadness to her passing. There is no greater or more poignant loss than that of a wonderful, sweet, humble animal. And in her case, Fate also robbed her of years of life she otherwise would have had. I am so sorry.
I am so sorry for dear, sweet Tarra, too. How wonderful that she brought her dear friend back home with her. That mental picture brings tears of grief, too.
There is no other way that anyone in charge should respond other than to let Tarra have the comfort she so needs now – the comfort of her Carol. There is *no other person or action* that will comfort her!
If TES does not allow that to happen — and not just once — they will be proving beyond any doubt or excuse that they are selfish, heartless, and not worthy to be near elephants let alone pretend to care for them.

Carol, I have been away from my computer since last Thursday and so I just now found out about poor Bella. I just want to say that I am so sorry for you and Tarra. My heart is just aching. My prayers are with you and hoping that the Sanctuary will finally show some compassion and allow you to see and comfort your Girl! God Bless.

Hi Carol, my heart goes out to you and Tarra and poor poor Bella, I have shed many tears over this tragedy. We have given donations in the past to TES but now I am wondering where is the money coming from to fight a court case stopping you from seeing Tarra are they using donations from supporters when they donate for the elephants? I pray that your reunion with Tarra is soon for both of you and hope that this awful situation is resolved amicabley soon. My very best wishes, Namaste. Sheila
