A few tidbits of information
In India:
- Thik ase hobo (teak aw-say hobo) is a polite way to say NO
- Nehi nehi (nay nay) is the way to say YES
- Tika means OK
Bicycles are a popular mode of transportation in India. One bike can accommodate four riders, although most of the time there are only one or two. Most bikes are equipped with a SARI-GUARD. This is the safety devise designed to prevent a female rider’s sari from becoming entangled in the chain and spokes of the bike.
Vehicles drive on the left side of the road.
Pedestrians do not have the right-of-way when crossing the street. It can be dangerous and appear strangely comical at the same time.
Due to the hot temperatures during the day, it is illegal to work elephants between the hours of 10am and 4pm, at least in the state of Assam. It is a welfare issue since elephants will become overheated if worked during the heat of the day.
